Fr.Melvin CJCHRISTMAS MESSAGE: GOD'S PLACE IN TODAY'S MODERN WORLD.
God has created the Cosmos and He was finally happy to create the human being to enjoy His Mighty Creation. He had admonished them not to violate his divine commandments. Did our forefathers keep the word of God / commandments?. No, the human beings miserably failed in the beginning itself. I mean to say that they did not give any importance to the Creator and now I would like to pause a question: WHAT IS GOD'S PLACE IN THE MODERN WORLD?.
From dawn to dusk, human beings are toiling very hard to safeguard their stomach that is 6 inches in size. We have much space for the things that are perishable in nature. On the contrary, do we have time and space for him?. Do we not actually turn away God himself?.We begin to do so when we have no time for him.
Olden days and for that matter 20 years ago, we spent lot of time in grinding the ingredients needed for making good curry. But today thanks to the modern techniques everything is done at a fast speed. Youngsters today are mad after the fast food and never bothered about the complications it will bring to our digestive systems. We spend lots of time to satisfy our wants to be happy in our life. The followings can be our wants: money, possessions, internet surfacing, social networking, psychological & Biological needs, picnics, watching movies on the T.V as well as in the Theatres, gambling, drugs, drinks The faster we can move , the more efficient our time- saving appliances become, the less time we have ?. And the question of God never seems urgent. Our time is already full. Societies had reached the point where many people’s thinking processes did not leave any room even for the existence of God ?.
There is no room for him. Not even in our feelings and desires have there any room for him. We want ourselves. We want what we can seize hold of , we want happiness that is within our reach, we want our plans and purposes to succeed . We are so ‘full’ of ourselves that there is no room left for God.
We experience this fact almost in all religions , all the religious beliefs and values are slowly getting eroded . As Christians are already in the mood of Christmas, they are constantly reminded of the words sang by the Angels at the moment of Jesus birth: Glory to God in the Highest and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased( Luke 2: 14 )
Reflecting on the Biblical account of Jesus born in a stable because there was no room for Mary and Joseph in the inn, I can say that when people find no room for God in their lives , they will soon find no room for others. Let us ask the Lord that we may become vigilant for his presence, that we may hear how softly yet insistently he knocks at the door of our being and willing. Let us ask the prayers for the people who are having intolerable sufferings in their lives on the day of Christmas and also during the Holy season of Christmas. Let us ask that we may find room for him within ourselves, that we may recognize him also in those through whom he speaks to us: children, the suffering, the abandoned , those who are excluded and the poor of this world.
For the question, “ what is Christmasâ€, Agnes M. Pharo writes the following: Christmas is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal; and that every path may lead to peace. To conclude with my reflections on Christmas, if we give more place for God in our lives, we will experience real peace in our lives irrespective of caste , color and creed. This is my only wish to the people of the modern world for the Holy feast of Christmas. Let us all pray earnestly that our wish may be fulfilled in the days ahead.
I wish you all very sincerely a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year 2015.... !
